What is SAC: Space Applications Centre (SAC), is a major research and development centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It plays a pivotal role in realizing the vision and mission of ISRO. 

When was SAC born: The beginning of the centre dates to 1966, with the establishment of the Experimental Satellite Communication Earth Station (ESCES), by late Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Father of the Indian space program, in Ahmedabad. Read more about Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. 

The major objective of the center lies in the development of spaceborne and airborne instruments or payloads and their applications for development and societal benefits of the Nation. These applications contribute in varied areas and primarily meet the communication, navigation and remote sensing needs of our Nation. 

The Centre is also conducting 9 months post graduate diploma courses for students from the Asia Pacific region. This initiative is under the aegis of the Centre for Space Science and Technology Education (CSSTEAP) in satellite meteorology and communication.

How to visit Indian Space Application Centre:

SAC allows students in its campus in a form of an educational visit. The interested institutes shall note the following:

  1. Head of the Institution should send their request (in letterhead) with details like List of students with college ID card No., Qualification/Discipline of students, Accompanying faculties/coordinators names and contact details.
  2. The institution should note that the batch should not exceed more than forty.
  3. Applications requests will be entertained on first come first serve basis.
  4. Confirmation will be sent by the Space Applications Center (SAC) a month before.
  5. Only one visit from a college will be entertained in a year.
  6. Its mandatory for the batch to be accompanied by a faculty from the institute.
  7. The batch shall not be provided accommodation facility by SAC.
  8. Every students and faculty is required to carry their ID cards during the visit.
  9. No electronic gadgets are allowed inside the campus.
  10. The programme or visit is scheduled between 0930-1600.
Request letter with complete details shall be sent to the following address at least three months before.
