Election Commission of India appeal schools to form electoral literacy club
Do you know about an excellent initiative envisioned by the Election Commission of India? If no, then this article is for you.
This initiative is Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) which is an extra-curricular platform for the schools.
The aim of the project is to sensitize students from Class IX to XII on their electoral rights and familiarizes them with the electoral process of registration and voting. ELCs will engage students through interesting activities, games, and hands-on experience.
The students of Class IX-XII shall be the members of ELC of their school. For enrolling for an ELC, the school can approach either the District Collector who is also the District Election O¬fficer (DEO) or Electoral Registration O¬fficer (ERO).
ELC Resource Guide is developed specifically for each grade for the benefit of club conveners (teachers). The guide can be downloaded from the official website. The resource guides describe the conduct of the simple activities in a detailed, step by step manner and enable conveners to independently organize ELCs. Additionally, a detailed handbook on FAQs related to election-related information is also available in the resources.
Schools can download the resources freely at www.ecisveep.nic.in . The Schools that formally enroll with the DEO/ERO for the ELC programme shall be provided one set of the ELC Resource Kit in soft and hard copy. The resource guides are available in Hindi & English and shall be soon available in regional languages.
Electoral Literacy Clubs were born out of the Election Commission's project 'Mainstreaming of Electoral Literacy through Educational Institutions, Organizations, and Communities in India' which aims to impart civic education to the younger generation for encouraging robust electoral participation.
