CBSE Introduces Artificial Intelligence In Schools As Skill Subject

CBSE, Department of Skill Education has released a curriculum for Artificial Intelligence (AI) for classes 8th and 9th. The board has decided that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be offered as Skill subject and not as an academic subject. The primary objective of this is to teach Artificial Intelligence to students and equip them with relevant skill-set, mindset and tool-set to become AI ready, at the right age.

As a beginning, the Board is introducing AI as an optional 6th subject at Class 9th from the Session 2019-2020 onwards. To enhance the multidisciplinary approach in teaching learning and to sensitize the new generation, it was decided that school may start AI “Inspire module” of 12 hours at Class VIII itself.

Any school with at least 20 computers and minimum internet bandwidth of 50 MBPS can apply to offer AI as a skill subject to their students. Beside this basic stationery which may include sticky notes, paper marker, glue, chart papers, sketch pens, rulers, A4 size papers, etc. (More details will be shared during the Training programme for the schools)
